Bibelns ofelbara sanning 1689

I 1689 års baptistbekännelse skriver man i kapitel ett paragraf 5.

5. We may be moved and induced by the testimony of the church of God to an high and reverent esteem of the Holy Scriptures; and the heavenliness of the matter, the efficacy of the doctrine, and the majesty of the style, the consent of all the parts, the scope of the whole which is to give all glory to God, the full discovery it makes of the only way of man's salvation, and many other incomparable excellencies, and entire perfections thereof, are arguments whereby it doth abundantly evidence itself to be the Word of God;

yet not withstanding, our full persuasion and assurance of the infallible truth, and divine authority thereof, is from the inward work of the Holy Spirit bearing witness by and with the Word in our hearts.

Poängen är, om jag förstår det rätt, att det finns många goda anledningar till att se Bibeln som ett ofelbart Guds ord. Men, den fulla övertygelsen och vissheten Bibelns ofelbarhet kommer inte genom mänskliga medel och bevis. Det är den helige Andes inre verk som vittnar genom och med ordet i våra hjärtan.

Det är inte bibelvetenskap, arkeologi eller kyrkans vittnesbörd som ger den slutgiltiga övertygelsen om
Bibelns ofelbara sanning och dess gudomliga auktoritet. Det är inte genom människors bevis Bibeln får sin fulla auktoritet. Istället är det genom Gud själv, genom den helige Andes verk inom den troende, som den djupa övertygelsen om Bibelns ofelbarhet kommer.

Det är på Guds auktoritet vi tryggt kan bygga en bibelsyn. Mänskliga studier och bevis är bra och nyttiga. Men i slutändan är det inte människors auktoritet vi vilar i, det är Guds auktoritet genom den helige Andes verk.
