Att bevara kyrkans tro

I helgen har jag tänkt att skriva ett inlägg om Andrew Fuller och hur han reagerade på John Gills hög-kalvinism. En del kritik av John Gill blir det nog.

Därför vill jag ge ett citat som visar hur John Gill bevarade partikulärbaptisterna i en stabil kristen tro, så att de var redo inför det uppvaknande som Andrew Fullers evangeliserande teologi kom att bli. Kanske finns det ibland något att lära också av John Gill mitt i våra försök att vara relevanta och pragmatiska.

"Like Athanasius in the fourth century, and Luther and Calvin during the Reformation, Gill dared to say no to those forms of teaching that, if carried out consistently, would have threatened the truth of divine revelation itself. In so doing, he helped to preserve the theological integrity of the Particular Baptists and thus, indirectly, prepared them to receive the awakening that came once he was gone."
