Den Heliga Ande

1861 års baptistbekännelse är skriven långt före Azusa Street och allt som det förde med sig. Men det betydde inte att den Helige Ande ansågs som död eller obetydlig (något som man kan få för sig om man följer vissa typer av undervisning). 1861 skriver man:

"2. Wi tro, att det är blott en lefwande och, sann Gud som är en Ande, oändelig i alla fullkomligheter —; som har skapat, uppehåller och regerar all ting —; och som har uppenbarat Sig uti tre jemnlika personer, Fadren, Sonen och den Heliga Anda."

Burk Parsons på Ligonier Ministries berättar att den Helige Ande i vissa fall svalnat i en del reformerta sammanhang, men att en klassisk reformert teologi lägger stor vikt den Helige Andes och den kraft som finns i den Helige Ande. I artikeln "The Acts of the Spirit and the Apostles" skriver han:

"We know that God is sovereign over all and that He has ordained the ends, but we too often forget that He has also ordained the means to those ends (Acts 2:23). While it’s true that God knows the end from the beginning, He is also wisely and providentially orchestrating all things from beginning to end, both in the church and in the world, both in the natural realm and in the supernatural realm. The Holy Spirit empowers, equips, and emboldens those He indwells to pray, preach, evangelize, disciple, and even to die."

John Calvin lade också stor vikt vid den Heliga Ande. Calvin har ibland kallats "the theologian of the Holy Spirit". B.B. Warfield skriver i artikeln "John Calvin The Theologian" om John Calvins syn på den Helige Andes roll i frälsningen:

"Here then is probably Calvin's greatest contribution to theological development. In his hands, for the first time in the history of the Church, the doctrine of the Holy Spirit comes to its rights. Into the heart of none more than into his did the vision of the glory of God shine, and no one has been more determined than he not to give the glory of God to another. Who has been more devoted than he to the Saviour, by whose blood he has been bought? But, above everything else, it is the sense of the sovereign working of salvation by the almighty power of the Holy Spirit which characterizes all Calvin's thought of God. And above everything else he deserves, therefore, the great name of the theologian of the Holy Spirit."

Min slutsats av ovanstående är helt enkelt att den Heliga Ande inte är något som karismatikerna har ensamrätt på. I klassisk reformert teologi lägger man stor vikt vid den Helige Ande.
